FRESNO, Calif. - The University of Rhode Island softball team suffered an 8-0 setback at the hands of Fresno State University in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the Fresno State Invitational.
Freshman Amanda Sbei (Collegeville, Pa.) tallied the only hit of the afternoon for the Rams, who dropped their fifth-straight game to fall to 1-9. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, pounded out 13 hits in five innings to improve to 21-3.
Fresno State took control of the game early as they put up a `5' spot in the bottom of the first inning. Jenna Cervantez, Nicole Angene and Ryane Petersen each laced RBI hits. The Bulldogs tacked on two more in the second and another in the fifth before the game was called.
Senior Jill Anderson (Cohoes, N.Y.) started for the Rams and went four innings, allowing 11 hits and seven runs (three earned). Petersen picked up the win for the Bulldogs as she struck out three over five innings.
The Rams were slated to conclude action at the tournament Saturday evening with a game against Cal Poly at 10 p.m. EST.
