KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island softball team dropped a pair of games to Atlantic 10 rival Temple University Friday afternoon, losing game one 3-2 and game two 1-0. The losses leave the Rams at 12-24 (2-8 A-10) while the Owls improve to 13-12 (7-4 A-10).

Temple jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game one courtesy of a two-run home run by Teresa Bonavita in the first. Sophomore Leah DiBussolo (East Norriton, Pa.) tied the game for URI in the fifth when she laced a single through the left side to score classmates Jackie Kampmeier (East Norriton, Pa.) and Darci Borden (Elma, Wash.).

The Owls went ahead for good 3-2 in the seventh when Anna Rico opened the frame with a walk and came around to score on a double by Katie Burdeaux, who came on in relief of starting pitcher Brianna Dairy to earn her fifth win of the season. She held the Rams scoreless in two innings of work while striking out three. Senior Jill Anderson (Cohoes, N.Y.) fell to 8-14 with the loss, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out four.

Burdeaux started game two and held the Rams hitless for six innings before Kampmeier singled with junior Stefani Poedubicky (Wrightstown, N.J.) on first with one out in the frame, but URI was unable to plate either runner. Temple broke through for the game's only run in the seventh when Courtney Norene launched her ninth home run of the season over the right-center field wall.

Burdeaux struck out four to earn the complete game win, improving to 6-4 on the season. Freshman Stacey Stanovich (Northbridge, Mass.) was the hard-luck loser for the Rams as she scattered six hits over seven innings while striking out two.

The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host Saint Joseph's at noon. The two schools will play a doubleheader.
