ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The University of Rhode Island softball team suffered a 9-1 defeat at St. Bonaventure University in Atlantic 10 action Friday afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Stadium.

The Bonnies (19-21, 10-5 A-10) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI double by Kara Morenus. They doubled the lead in the fourth when Amanda Kotz drove a fly to right that plated Ashley Kotz.

The Rams cut the deficit in half (2-1) in the fifth when sophomore Jackie Kampmeier (East Norriton, Pa.) reached on an error and scored on a double by senior Shelly Petersen (Manhattan Beach, Calif.). The Bonnies answered with four runs in their half of the fifth and three more in the sixth to take a 9-1 lead. Stephanie Narde, Patricia McKeon, and Kathryn Pazda each recorded RBI hits in the fifth, and Morenus, Ashley Kotz, and Shelly Seeger each drove in runs in the sixth.

Sherri Thompson held the Rams to three hits and no earned runs while striking out five en route to her 15th win of the season. Senior Jill Anderson (Cohoes, N.Y.) started and took the loss for URI, allowing 13 hits and eight runs (seven earned) while striking out three in five innings of work. Freshman Stacey Stanovich (Northbridge, Mass.) relieved Anderson in the sixth and allowed one run on one hit in 0.2 innings of work.

The Rams (14-37, 4-15 A-10) conclude the 2008 season with a noon contest against the Bonnies on Saturday.
