DURHAM, N.H. - The Rhode Island volleyball team (5-3) collected its second straight victory as it downed New Hampshire 3-2 on Friday in the UNH Invitational.
Three URI players reached double-figures in kills. Junior Caitlyn Welsh (Narragansett, R.I.) led the way with 15 terminations. In eight matches this season, Welsh leads the team with 99 kills (3.00 kpg).
Freshmen Stacey Yohannes (Penfield, N.Y.) and Kayla Wilson (Santa Monica, Calif.) also recorded 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
Defensively for the Rams, senior Peggy Doino (Deer Park, N.Y.) led URI with 23 digs
New Hampshire captured game one 25-22, but the Rams responded in the second frame with a 25-21 triumph.
UNH took a 2-1 advantage after it won game three 25-18, but Rhode Island then captured games four (25-22) and five (15-11) to win the match. In the fifth game, URI outhit UNH .400-.136.
Rhode Island returns to action with a pair of games on Saturday against Seton Hall (10:00 a.m.) and Evansville (4:30 p.m.).
