KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island volleyball team (6-6) snapped its three-match losing streak on Wednesday as it defeated Holy Cross 3-1 at home.
Sophomore middle blocker Lauren McIntosh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and junior outside hitter Caitlyn Welsh (Narragansett, R.I.) led the way offensively for the Rams as the two combined for 27 kills.
McIntosh posted a pair of match highs with a season-best attack percentage of .619 and tied a season-high with 14 kills. In addition, the Colorado native recorded just one error on 21 swings.
URI sophomore Lindsay Lytle (Sebastopol, Calif.) also chipped in offensively as she recorded a match-high 40 assists.
The Rams captured game one 25-10 and outhit the Crusaders .429- -.321 with Welsh recording five kills. URI took the second game 25-15 and limited Holy Cross to just .087 hitting.
In the third game, Holy Cross responded with a 25-22 triumph, but Rhode Island closed out the match in the fourth frame, defeating the Crusaders 25-15.
Rhode Island travels to Philadelphia on Sept. 26-27 to open its conference schedule and LaSalle and Temple, respectively.
