Volleyball Falls in Five Games to South Carolina

KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island volleyball team (3-3) dropped a 3-2 decision to South Carolina at home in the second day of the Art Carmichael Invitational.

Junior Caitlyn Welsh (Narragansett, R.I.) paced the squad offensively as she totaled 13 kills. Welsh also tallied a team-best 14 digs.

Freshman Stacey Yohannes (Penfield, N.Y.) also reached double figures in kills as she recorded 12.

South Carolina captured the first set 25-18, but URI responded with a 25-22 triumph in the second frame, while holding the Gamecocks to an attack percentage of just .098.

In the third set, Rhode Island took a 2-1 match advantage after it downed South Carolina 25-23 thanks to a team attack percentage of .268.

The Gamecocks would then go on to claim the final two sets 25-18 and 15-10 to win the match.

URI concludes play in the Art Carmichael Invitational tomorrow when it faces off against Boston College at 3:00 p.m.
