Volleyball Outlasts Boston College in Five Games

KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island Volleyball team (4-3) defeated Boston College 3-2 in the final day of the Art Carmichael Invitational.

Junior Caitlyn Welsh (Narragansett, R.I.) posted double-figures in kills for the second-consecutive match as she tallied a team-high 18 terminations. Sophomore Lauren McIntosh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) also reached double figures in kills with 14.

Defensively for the Rams, senior Peggy Doino (Deer Park, N.Y.) posted a team-high 27 digs.

Rhode Island opened the match with a 25-16 win in game one and held Boston College to an attack percentage of just .067.

BC responded in the second frame to defeat URI 25-12. The Rams would go on to score a 25-11 triumph in the third set to take a 2-1 match advantage.

In the fourth game, the Eagles would go on to even the match at two games apiece, but the Rams earned 15-10 win in the deciding set to win the match.

URI returns to action against New Hampshire at 7:00 p.m. on Sept. 12 in the UNH Invitational.
