Runnin Rams' Slip Past Fairfield, 89-84

KINGSTON, R.I. - Junior forward Delroy James led four players in double figures as the Rhode Island men's basketball team (9-1) defeated Fairfield, 89-84 on Sunday afternoon at the Ryan Center.

James connected on 7-of-12 shots from the field including five 3-pointers. He also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

With the win, Rhode Island has won 24 of its last 26 non-conference games at the Ryan Center.

Senior forward Lamonte Ulmer had 20 points connecting on 9-of-12 from the field while junior center Will Martell and junior forward Ben Eaves scored in double figures with 11 apiece.

The Stags came out firing going on a 7-0 run to begin the game. Fairfield controlled most of the first half, but Rhody slowly climbed back and eventually took their first lead of 35-34 off an Ulmer jump shot with 2:13 remaining.

Eaves contributed off the bench in the first half adding 11 points in seven minutes. Nine of Eaves' points came from 3-point range.

The Rams began the second half on an 8-0 run to take a 47-38 lead.

Sophomore Orion Outerbridge scored his sixth straight point with 9:10 remaining and gave the Rams a 68-58 lead.

Fairfield would not go away as they closed the deficit to one point (74-73) with 3:13 remaining in the game. Down the stretch, URI outscored the Stags 15-11 to secure the win.

Rhody returns to action on December 22 as it travels to Drexel. Tip off is set for 7pm.
