March 6, 2009

Box Score

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Rhode Island Baseball team (7-2) earned its sixth-consecutive victory with an 8-6 win over No. 25 Ohio State, 8-6, Friday evening at Chain Lakes Field.

The victory improves URI to 2-0 against ranked opponents this season as the Rams shut down No. 8 Miami, 3-0, earlier in the week (March 3). For the Buckeyes, the defeat was the first this season as they drop to 7-1.

Rhody trailed 6-3 heading into the seventh, but went on to score four runs in the frame to take a 7-6 lead. All four of URI's runs came with two outs.

Freshman Mike LeBel's (Quincy, Mass.) single to right field gave URI the lead as he picked up his fourth and fifth RBI's on the year.

In the eighth, Rhody added another run to secure the victory.

Junior Nick Greenwood (Southington, Conn.) picked up the win for the Rams as he worked six innings, allowing just one hit and one run (unearned) before retiring the final 17 OSU batters. Greenwood (2-1) - who finished with nine strikeouts on the night - came on in relief of redshirt junior starter Tim Boyce (Swansea, Mass.) in the fourth.

Offensively, Rhody pounded out 12 hits, three of which came off the bat of sophomore Jeff Cammans (Jamestown, R.I.). Cammans leads the squad with 15 hits this season.

The Rams are back in action March 13 at 4:00 p.m. (ET) when they take on No. 7 Cal State Fullerton (Baseball America/Rivals.com) in the Oklahoma State Tournament in Stillwater, Okla.
