Box Score

KINGSTON, R.I. -Redshirt junior Tim Boyce (Swansea, Mass.) tossed seven scoreless innings with just four hits as the Rhode Island baseball team notched a 7-2 win over St. Bonaventure, Friday afternoon at Bill Beck Field. The victory improves the first-place Rams' record to 22-12-1 (10-2) while the Bonnies drop to 16-13 (5-7).

Junior Oliver Palmer (North Kingstown, R.I.) and freshman Mike LeBel (Quincy, Mass.) both blasted two-run homers for Rhody while sophomore Tom Coulombe (Lincoln, R.I.) finished the day with a pair of runs on two hits.

Palmer put URI on top in the first inning when he lasered a shot over the left field fence to also score sophomore Pete Mastors (Narragansett, R.I.) who had drawn a lead-off walk.

Rhody stretched its lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run single by sophomore Kenny Burns (Shelton, Conn.) that plated both LeBel and Coulombe. Coulombe went on to make it a 5-0 game in the bottom of the sixth, crossing the plate on an RBI single to short by sophomore Jeff Cammans (Jamestown, R.I.).

LeBel's eighth-inning home run put Rhody on top 7-0 before the Bonnies got a pair of runs in their final trip to the plate. Kyle Gorby's two-run shot over the right-center fence ruined the shutout for the Rams, who got the next two batters to secure the 7-2 victory.

Rhode Island and St. Bonaventure return to Bill Beck Field for a 1 p.m. meeting on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the start of the game, the Rams will hold a brief ceremony to bless the newly renovated Bill Beck Field. URI President Dr. Robert L. Carothers will be on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
