Box Score
KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island baseball team fell to in-state rival Bryant, 5-1, Tuesday afternoon at Bill Beck Field. Sophomore
Pete Mastors (Narragasett, R.I.) led the Rams offensively with a 2-for-4 showing at the plate.
Trailing 2-0, Rhody got its lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth when redshirt freshman Dan Haverstick (Marlton, N.J.) scored on a wild pitch by Bryant's Eric Polvani. Haverstick had sent a one-out single up the middle before stealing second and advanced to third when the throw down went through the Bulldogs' infielders and out into center field.
Bryant came back and plated three more the following inning, to take the 5-1 win.
Polvani - who recorded nine strikeouts in as many innings of work - earned the win for the Bulldogs while sophomore Ken Graveline (Prospect, Conn.) was charged with the loss. Graveline finished with five runs on eights hits. Relievers Mark Fraser (Nashua, N.H.) , Cam Fox (Braintree, Mass.), Ross Davis (Bennington, N.H.) and Anthony Pisani (Revere, Mass.) threw an inning each while keeping the Bulldogs off the board the rest of the way.
Rhode Island is back in action on Wednesday afternoon when it heads to Boston College for a 3 p.m. Game against the Eagles.
