KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island junior second baseman Oliver Palmer (North Kingstown, R.I.) has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I First Team. Palmer now advances to the Academic All-America ballot which will be voted on later this month.

Palmer currently leads the Rams in hits (67), runs (48) and home runs (10). He also paces the Atlantic 10 Conference with 20 doubles and 122 total bases so far this season. Defensively, he has been near perfect in the field, committing just two errors on 223 chances.

Palmer has been equally successful in the classroom, compiling a 3.69 grade point average as a Communications major and earning Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades in each of his five semesters to date. He becomes the first Ram to earn the Academic All-District I honor since Wayne Russo was selected in 2005.

To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have a minimum GPA of 3.30 and must be in their second year at the same institution to be eligible. Players are nominated by their respective school's sports information office and selections are the result of voting conducted among the sports information directors in each respective district.
