Rams Conclude Hofstra Tournament With 3-2 Loss To Binghamton

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Rhode Island women's volleyball team (1-2) dropped the final match of the Hofstra University Tournament Saturday night as it lost 3-2 to Binghamton.

Rhody held a 2-1 match lead heading into the fourth frame, but Binghamton fought back to win the fourth (25-18) and fifth (15-11) games to win the match.

Offensively, three URI players posted 10 or more kills. Junior Lauren McIntosh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the way with 13 kills, while junior Kayla Newberg (Deer Park, Wash.) and sophomore Kayla Wilson (Santa Monica, Calif.) chipped in with 12 and 10 kills, respectively.

Defensively for Rhody, junior Kalyn Klaess (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the way as she registered a career-high 31 digs.

Following the event, senior Caitlyn Welsh (Narragansett, R.I.) was named to the All-Tournament team. In three matches, Welsh averaged 1.75 kills and 4.58 digs per game.

As a team, Rhody finished the tournament with a 1-2 mark.

The Rams return to action Tuesday as they head to Boston, Mass. to take on Northeastern at 7 p.m.
