MANCHESTER, Conn. -- The Rhode Island men's cross country team opened its 2009 campaign this afternoon at the Trinity Invitational, at Wickham Park in Manchester, Conn.
The Rams placed seventh in the team competition, compiling 141 total points.  Stonehill took the team title, with 33 points.
Rhody was led by Michael Pezzullo, who finished 20th overall, covering the five-kilometer course in a time of 16:53.  Teammates Kevin Healey and Justin Ellison crossed the line together, in 23rd and 24th place, respectively - both in a time of 17:01.  Corey Coogan was 34th overall, clocking a time of 17:20.  Daniel Hawkins rounded out the URI scorers in 49th place, in a time of 17:40.
Nate Wigton (55th, 17:46) and James Harrison (70th, 18:29) rounded out the Rhody finishers.
Rhode Island returns to action next week - Sept. 19 - when it travels to to Hartford Invitational.
