KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island women's volleyball team (11-8; 2-4 Atlantic 10) dropped a 3-0 decision to Charlotte on Sunday at Keaney Gymnasium despite a team-best nine kills from junior
Kayla Wilson.
Rhody dropped the first set 25-18 after it was outhit .435-.167. Freshman Britta Baarstad paced the squad in the opening game as she had three kills.
In the second game, Rhody jumped out to a 2-1 lead, but the 49ers fought back by winning seven of the next eight points to take an 8-2 lead. Rhody fought back to cut the 49ers lead to 16-12, but that was as close as URI would get as Charlotte went on to a 25-20 victory.
Charlotte closed out the match in the third game as it posted a 25-17 win. The 49ers outhit the Rams .400-.062.
Rhody returns to action on Friday as it heads to Saint Louis. The match is set to begin at 8 p.m. (ET).
