KINGSTON, R.I. -- Delroy James scored 15 points - including the 1,000th of his Rhode Island career - as the Runnin' Rams downed Davidson, 71-58.

James scored his milestone bucket with 15:12 left in regulation, keying a 13-0 second half run for Rhode Island (5-2). He also added nine rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal in 35 minutes.

Both teams started the game trading baskets, with neither the Rams nor the Wildcats (2-3) gaining more than a three-point advantage. After a Davidson 3-pointer made it 9-6, Rhody would respond with a 18-3 push over the next 4:09. A Marquis Jones 3-point jumper capped the run and made the score 24-12 with 12:03 left in the half.

Davidson would close the gap over the next 7:30, outscoring Rhode Island, 22-11 and cutting the home team's lead to just one - at 34-33. But URI would respond. James threw down the dunk of the year with 1:53 left and URI took a 39-35 lead at the break.

In the second half, Davidson took a one-point lead - 42-41 with 15:48 remaining - before James' 1,000th point began a run which put the game out of reach. The 13-0 run, capped by a steal from Jones and a layup by James, spanned five minutes and gave Rhody a 54-42 edge with 10:45 left in regulation.

A steal off the an inbounds play and a quick jumper by Akeem Richmond gave Rhode Island its largest lead of the half - 14 points - at 60-46 with 7:11 reminaing. Davidson cut it to nine points (65-56) with 1:15 left, but would not get any closer.

Akeem Richmond scored 15 points, knocking down 4-of-6 from the perimeter, while Ben Eaves had 11 points and four rebounds off the bench. The point guard duo of Jones and Daniel West combined for 16 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and two steals.

Rhody's defense held Davidson to 39.7% (23-58) shooting from the floor and the Rams won the battle of the boards, 37-33.

The Runnin' Rams return to action on Saturday, Dec. 4 when they take on Providence at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Game time is set for 4 p.m. and can be seen live on Cox Sports Television and Cox Sports HD.
