KINGSTON, R.I. - Keith Cothran's 3-pointer with one second remaining rimmed out as the Rhode Island men's basketball dropped a 69-67 decision to Richmond Wednesday night at the Ryan Center.

Cothran was one of three players, who finished in double figures. Sophomore forward Orion Outerbridge led the way with 12 points as he connected on 6-of-7 shots from the floor. Junior forward Delroy James finished the game with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Rhody held a 31-28 advantage on the glass and committed just six turnovers compared to 11 miscues for the Spiders.

A heavy snowstorm blanketed the URI campus, but that did not stop 7,109 fans from attending the fourth annual PINK OUT. Of those in attendance 3,131 were URI students, which is the highest student turnout in the history of the Ryan Center.

URI jumped out to an early 9-0 lead to open the game, but the Dukes fought back with a 17-6 run over the next nine minutes to tie the game at 17 apiece with 8:06 to go in the first half.

One minute later, Richmond took a 20-19 lead and went on to lead for the remainder of the half as it took a 32-28 lead.

Coming out of the locker room, Richmond held the lead for the first 15:50 of the second half until Rhody tied the game at 60 apiece with 4:10 to go in the game. Over the next minute, URI scored five straight points and held a 65-60 lead with under three minutes to go in the game.

Richmond fought back and held a 69-66 lead with 23 seconds to go in the game. Following a missed 3-pointer by Cothran, Richmond's David Gonzalvez went to the free throw line with a chance to ice the game, but after he missed the front end of one-and-one Rhody had another possession to try and win the game.

After the missed free throw, sophomore Stevie Mejia brought the ball up the floor, but was fouled in the process and went to the line to shoot two.

With the Rams down three, Mejia made the first, but missed the second shot. Rhody still had a chance however as Richmond could not control the rebound and the Rams would inbound the ball with 4.9 seconds remaining, but were unable to convert.

Rhode Island returns to action on Saturday as it travels to nationally ranked Temple. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. At halftime of tonight's game it was announced that $11,696 was raised from the sale of PINK OUT t-shirts.
