Box Score

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Sophomore Mike LeBel went 5-for-6 with three runs and a pair of RBI as the Rhode Island baseball team took down UNC Wilmington, 12-11, Friday night at Brooks Field. Ten of Rhody's 12 runs were unearned as the Rams took advantage of seven UNCW errors on the night.

Juniors Evan Laude and Kyle Borden also finished multiple hits as each recorded two with three RBI. Senior Dan Rossignol earned the win on the mound while junior Gardner Leaver picked up the save.

LeBel got things started in the top of the first, sending a leadoff single to right and eventually scoring on a sac-fly by junior Tom Coulombe. Senior Oliver Palmer also crossed the plate in the first to give Rhode Island an early 2-0 advantage.

Rhody doubled its lead the following inning when LeBel blasted a two-run homer that also scored senior Zoey Angulo. For LeBel, it was his third home run in the last two games.

The Seahawks came back and scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth - four of which were unearned - to move in front, 5-4.

Rhody evened things up the following inning on a run by junior Tom Coulombe before a three-run sixth gave the Rams an 8-5 edge.

UNCW came back and plated two in the bottom of the seventh, but URI put the game out of reach with four runs in the bottom of the eighth. LeBel scored on a sacrifice fly by Borden and Laude drove in three on a triple to right center. Laude has now hit safely in each of his last seven games.

The Rams and Seahawks will return to Brooks Field tomorrow at 4 p.m.
