Box Score

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Rhode Island junior Tom Coulombe went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI as the Rams took down William and Mary, 10-5, on Wednesday night. The win improves URI to 7-11 while the Tribe fall to 14-7.

Coulombe put the Rams on the board in the first inning as his single up the middle plated sophomore Mike LeBel, who had drawn a lead off walk. The Rams scored again the following inning when senior Rob DeVeney tripled to left center and came around to score on a double by redshirt sophomore Dan Haverstick.

The Rams pushed it to 7-0 in the top of the fourth after senior Oliver Palmer ripped his second career grand slam to also score DeVeney, Haverstick and LeBel. Coulombe then sent a two-out double to left before coming around to score when W&M center fielder Ryan Brown committed an error on a ball by junior Evan Laude.

William and Mary sent two home in the bottom of the inning but Rhody went back up by seven (9-2) in the top of the sixth after LeBel scored on a passed ball and Palmer crossed the plate on a sac-fly by Coulombe.

The Tribe plated a pair in the eighth and added one more in the ninth but an RBI single by Haverstick in the top of the final inning put the game out of reach for W&M.

Sophomore starter Anthony Pisani struck out three and allowed just two hits over the opening four innings before being relieved by junior Brian Bodjiak, who tossed two scoreless innings to pick up the win. Matt Wainman took the loss for the Tribe.

Rhode Island returns to action on Friday afternoon when it opens up Atlantic 10 action with a 3 p.m. game at Temple.
