March 6, 2010

Box Score

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Rhode Island baseball team fell to Maine, 6-5, in the 11th inning on Saturday afternoon in Winter Haven, Fla. Sophomores Mike LeBel, Milan Adams and Dan Haverstick each recorded a pair of hits for the Rams.

Rhody (0-7) took a one-run lead in the bottom of the second inning when Adams led off with a single through the right side, advanced to second on Haverstick's sacrifice bunt and came around to score on an RBI double by LeBel.

The Black Bears (3-6) took over the lead with a three-run fourth inning, but an RBI single by senior Zoey Angulo made it a one-run game again in the bottom of the frame.

Senior Luis Chacon and Haverstick both crossed the plate in the sixth inning, putting URI in front, 4-3. The following inning, Maine's Justin Latta walked in freshman Kyle Borden, to give the Rams a 5-3 advantage.

However, Maine would plate two more in the top of the eighth to knot things up at 5-5 before an 11th inning RBI double by Joey Martin sealed up the victory.

Junior reliever Dan Johnson was charged with the loss while Latta was credited with the win and Myskie Lugbauer got the save. Senior starter Tim Boyce lasted 6.2 innings, giving up one earned run and striking out six batters

The Rams return to action on Sunday, March 7 when they take on Bowling Green at 1:30 p.m.
