April 13, 2010

Box Score

HAMDEN, Conn. - Sophomore Mike LeBel went 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBI as the Rhode Island baseball team cruised to a 13-2 victory at Quinnipiac on Tuesday afternoon.

Junior Tom Coulombe finished with three RBI on three hits - including a two-run homer - while senior Oliver Palmer and juniors Kenny Burns and Kyle Borden each had a pair of hits. Palmer also scored twice while Borden drove in two runs.

Six of Rhody's starters reached base at least twice as the Rams combined for 15 hits, compared to seven by the Bobcats.

Redshirt freshman Rob Curran earned the win - his first as a Ram - while allowing just one base hit over 3.1 innings of work and striking out three batters. Fellow freshmen Tyler Brennan and Sam Cook finished off the game with a scoreless eighth and ninth, respectively, sending URI's record (15-14) above .500 for the first time this season.

The Bobcats (3-22) never led in the game, but did tie the score at 1-1 in the second and 2-2 in the fourth. However, Rhode Island came back and plated 11 runs from the sixth-eighth innings to put the game out of reach.

The Rams are back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they return to Bill Beck Field for a 3:30 p.m. game against in-state rival Bryant.
