Box Score

KINGSTON, R.I. - Senior Zoey Angulo went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI as the Rhode Island baseball team fell to Massachusetts, 6-4, on Friday afternoon at Bill Beck Field. The loss drops Rhody to 16-15 (6-4) while UMass improves to 6-18 (4-6).

The Rams got on the board first as sophomore Mike LeBel sent his team-leading fifth homerun of the season over the left field fence to put URI on top 1-0 in the bottom of the third.

However, the Minutemen came back and plated four runs on five hits in the top of the fourth - and never trailed again.

Angulo homered for Rhody in the bottom of the frame to cut UMass' lead in half (4-2) but the Minutemen scored again in the top of the fifth to take a 5-2 advantage.

Trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh, the Rams' best chance came with Angulo at the plate, bases loaded and two away. Angulo lined a shot down the right field line - for what likely would have evened the score, or given URI the lead - but UMass first baseman Mike Gedman made a quick dive to his left to pull the ball down and ruin any chance of a Rhody comeback.

Senior starter Tim Boyce - who scattered nine hits over 6.1 innings and was responsible for all six UMass runs - took the loss while UMass' Nick Serino picked up the win. Leif Sorenson, meanwhile, earned the save.

The two teams will return to Bill Beck Field tomorrow at 1 p.m.
