Box Score
KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island baseball team was edged by Siena, 2-0, Wednesday at Bill Beck Field. Junior
Kyle Borden recorded two of the Rams' three hits on the afternoon.
Defensively, senior Oliver Palmer tallied six assists to pass Mike LaBarbera `01 and take over the top spot on URI's career assists list (497). Palmer currently ranks eighth or better in 11 different career categories at Rhode Island.
Siena (19-22) scored both of its runs in the first inning as Anthony Giansanti and Dan Paolini both drew walks and came around to score on a two-run double by Kevin Quaranto.
Rhode Island (20-19), meanwhile, struggled to get the offense going as it was unable to send more than four batters to the plate in any of the first eight innings. The Rams' best chance came in the top of the ninth when junior Mike LeBel and Palmer led off with back-to-back walks, but Giansanti - who moved to the mound from right field - got the Saints out of the inning before Rhody could do any damage.
Sophomore starter Anthony Pisani took the loss, giving up two hits and two runs over four innings. Freshmen Mike Bradstreet, Tyler Brennan and Rob Curran, along with junior Dan Johnson, combined for five innings of scoreless relief.
Siena's C.J. Sohl took the win while Giansanti picked up the save.
The Rams are back in action this weekend when they travel to Duquesne for a three-game Atlantic 10 series. The two teams will play at 3 p.m. on Friday, 1 p.m. on Saturday and again at Noon on Sunday.
