CAMDEN, N.J. - Senior
Zoey Angulo went 3-for-5 with three RBI as the Rhode Island baseball team posted a 7-2 win over La Salle on Friday afternoon at Campbell's Field. The game - which had begun at 7 p.m. on Thursday night - resumed in the top of the fifth on Friday after nearly two hours of lightning/rain delays on Thursday night.
With the win, Rhode Island (31-25) advances to face second-seeded Charlotte in a 5 p.m. elimination game on Friday night.
Angulo was one of six Rams to reach base more than once as he recorded his 11th three-hit game this season. Junior Tom Coulombe also finished with three hits while sophomore Mike LeBel and junior Kyle Borden recorded two each. LeBel also scored twice and drove in a pair of runs on his second home run of the Championship.
Freshman Mike Bradstreet took the hill when play resumed on Friday morning and earned the win after tossing 2.1 scoreless innings. Junior Dan Johnson came on in the seventh and allowed just two hits over the final 2.2 innings of play. Senior starter Dan Rossignol pitched the first four innings for the Rams and finished one inning shy of being eligible for his ninth win of the season.
Prior to the game being put on hold, the Rams had jumped out to a 4-2 lead, thanks to a two-run shot by LeBel and runs by Coulombe and junior Evan Laude.
The Explorers (22-32) managed to push one across in the bottom of the third, and another in the fourth, but that was as close as they would get.
Rhody, meanwhile, extended its lead in the top of the seventh as LeBel drew a lead-off walk, advanced to third on a base hit by Palmer and came in to score on Borden's double to right. Angulo then then drove a two-run single into right field to put the Rams in front 7-2.
