Men's Soccer Falls to William & Mary, 4-0

NORFOLK, Va, - The Rhode Island men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 setback to William & Mary on Sunday afternoon at the ODU Stihl Soccer Classic. Sophomore Robby Gargaro and senior Michael Tanke were named to the All-Tournament team.

The loss drops Rhody to 1-3 while the Tribe improves to 3-0.

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Peyton Warwick totaled three saves, but allowed four goals as he took the loss for URI. Redshirt senior Anthony Tavares came on in relief of Warwick in the 82nd minute, but did not face any shots.

Seniors Jonathan Pereira and Matt Preyss were the only Rams to put a shot on goal, but each of their attempts was stopped by W&M's Andrew McAdams.

Alan Koger put William & Mary on the board with a goal just 2:22 into the match. Ryan Snyder went on to give the Tribe a 2-0 advantage when he scored on a penalty kick in the 29th minute.

Snyder struck again in the second half, beating Warwick off a cross from Ben Coffey, before setting up W&M's final goal - by Nick Orozco - at the 79:20 mark.

For the game, Rhode Island held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks, but was outshot by a 15-8 margin.

Rhody returns to Kingston for its home opener vs. Siena on Saturday night.
