KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island women's
volleyball team (9-3) increased its winning streak to six straight
as it downed Central Connecticut (3-1) and Holy Cross (3-0) to
claim the Brown Invitational on Saturday at the Pizzitola
Center.
The Rams' six-match winning streak is their longest since 2001
when the squad reeled off 10 straight victories.
In its first match of the day against Central Connecticut, Rhody
outhit the Blue Devils .245-.120. Junior Kayla Wilson led the
way offensively as she totaled 14 kills on .375 hitting.
Rhody opened the match with a 25-17 victory to take the early
lead, but CCSU fought back in the second frame with a 31-29
triumph. The Rams closed out the match by posting wins in games
three (25-17) and four (25-17).
Later in the afternoon, Rhody posted its second sweep of the
year as it posted set victories of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-19. Freshman
Britta
Baarstad had a match-high 10 kills.
The Rams return home on Sept. 24 as they welcome Temple to open
their conference schedule at 7 p.m. inside Keaney Gymnasium.
