KINGSTON, R.I. - Senior guard Marquis Jones drilled a pair of free throws with seven seconds remaining to give the Rhode Island men's basketball team (11-6; 2-1 Atlantic 10) a 56-55 victory over St. Bonaventure Sunday afternoon at the Ryan Center.

Jones finished the game with 12 points, connecting on 4-of-9 shots from the field and was one of three players who finished in double figures.

Junior Orion Outerbridge led all URI scorers with 15 points as he connected on 7-of-8 from the field. Senior Delroy James also scored in double figures as he netted 15 points.

Defensively, Rhody held St. Bonaventure's leading scorer Andrew Nicholson to just nine points, which was his lowest scoring total of the season. Nicholson had scored in double figures in 20-consecutive games coming into Sunday's game.

The Bonnies jumped out to an early 11-4 lead, but Rhody fought back with a 9-4 run to cut its deficit to two (15-13) with 11:15 to go in the first half.

With five and a half minutes remaining in the first half, Rhody went on to take its first lead of the game thanks to a 3-pointer by sophomore Akeem Richmond which gave the Rams a 21-19 advantage. The Rams took the lead thanks to a five minute scoring draught by the Bonnies.

St. Bonaventure responded by outscoring the Rams 8-7 over the final five minutes to take a 29-28 lead into the locker room. The Bonnies outshot Rhody as they connected at a 40.0 percent clip.

James and Jones each netted six points to lead the Rams in the first half, while sophomore Daniel West pulled down a team-best four rebounds.

Neither team lead by more than five in the first five minutes of the second half. Outerbridge drew the Rams even at 42 points apiece with 10:29 to go as he scored six straight points. Over the next five minutes, St. Bonaventure outscored Rhody 13-6 to take a seven-point lead with 5:29 remaining.

Rhody still trailed with three minutes to go, but the Rams went on to hold the Bonnies scoreless for the remainder of the game and rally back from a five-point deficit to secure the win.

Rhody returns to the hardwood on Wednesday as it travels to Saint Joesph's. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
