Norman, McCabe Highlight First Day of A-10 Championships

KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island women's track and field team currently sits in second place with 35 points following competition at day one of the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship taking place at Mackal Field House.

Dayton is the current overall leader with 77 points, followed by URI (35) and Charlotte (30).

The day was highlighted by the performances of Marissa Norman and Kelly McCabe in the pentathlon. Norman racked up 3399 points en route to the victory while McCabe was a close second with 3391 points. Sophomore Caroline Warren was 12th with 2761 points.

Norman won the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.49, finished tied for first in the high jump (1.61m) and was second in the 800m run with a time of 2:31.44. Meanwhile, McCabe won the long jump (5.26m), the shot put (12.33) and finished tied for first in the high jump (1.61m).

Senior Crystal Bourque recorded a third place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 16.74m, while Ananda Fraser was seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.48.

In the pole vault, freshman Kaylan Pickford was fifth and Lexi-Taylor Harrington sixth with identical marks of 3.30m. The mark by Harrington represents a personal best performance.

Rhody posted a team best time of 12:09.35 in the distance medley relay to finish in eighth place.

In qualifying heats, freshman Jennifer Christian recorded personal best times in the 55m dash (7.16) and 200m dash (25.29) to advance to both finals. Meanwhile, classmate Hannah Janeczak's time of 7.12 in the 55m dash marks a personal best and a spot in tomorrow's finals.
