Men's Track Claims 2011 Atlantic 10 Indoor Title

KINGSTON, R.I. - After finishing runner-up for three consecutive years, the University of Rhode Island men's track & field team is finally on top as it won the 2011 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship on Saturday afternoon inside Mackal Field House.

The title marks the programs sixth since 2001- all under the direction of head coach John Copeland. Copeland also earned Atlantic 10 Coach of Year.

Rhody concluded competition with 158.50 points while Charlotte was runner-up with 155.50 points. UMass was third (87), followed by Temple (87), La Salle (60), Saint Louis (45), Saint Joseph's (37), Richmond (35) and Xavier (27).

Senior Jacob Keeling earned Most Outstanding Field Performer honors as he won the shot put event with a mark of 56-02.20 and finished runner-up in the weight throw with a toss of 61-11.00.

Junior Andrew Reigstad won the heptathlon with 4888 points while teammate Joseph Sliwoski was third with 4487 points.

Senior David Kennedy took home the 500m crown as he posted a time of 1:03.10. Kennedy also placed fourth in the 200m with a time of 22.28.

Rhody also took care of the jumps as sophomores Ronald Woodley and Rainford Thomas took home the triple and long jumps crowns, respectively. Woodley posted a mark of 48-11.00 while Thomas recorded a mark of 6-08.25.

Rhode Island will be back in action next Friday, Feb. 25th to take part in the New England Championships. The action begins at 1 p.m. in Boston.
