Setting the Scene
The Rhode Island Men's Cross Country team competed Sunday afternoon in the 100th running of the historic New England Championship finishing in 30th, one of the team's best finishes in recent years. Junior James Bloom (Weston, Conn.) and senior Corey Coogan (North Providence, R.I.) led the way on the narrow course with times of 25:45.20 and 26:19.16, good for 81st and 144th place. Coogan and Bloom set personal records in the race. The 8-kilometer course was located at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass. The site was moved due to renovations on Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. An overall 261 runners raced in the heavily competitive field.
