How it Happened
Rhode Island (29-23-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth as Pat Quinn and Dan Haverstick both crossed the plate for the Rams. Connecticut (27-24-1) cut in half in the bottom of the frame before tying it up in the sixth. The score remained tied 2-2 through the top of the ninth when the skies opened up and caused a 90-minute rain delay – the Rams' second in as many days. With no sign of the weather clearing up, the game was called and declared a 2-2 tie.

Inside the Box Score

  • Bobby Dean struck out five batters while allowing two runs on seven hits over a 5.1-inning start. Ty Sterner came on in the bottom of the sixth and tossed an inning and a third without allowing a hit. Brendan Doonan then finished out the seventh before handing the ball over to Joe Landi, who tossed a 1-2-3 eighth.
  • Rhody had four hits on the afternoon, one each by Quinn, Landi (who started at second base before taking the mound in the eighth), Tim Caputo and Chris Famiglietti.
  • Jeff Roy had URI's only RBI, driving in Haverstick in a sac-fly to centerfield. Quinn scored the Rams' other run on a Connecticut throwing error.
