Rhode Island (6-10, 2-2 A-10) swept Charlotte, 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-17) to even its record in conference play Sunday afternoon.
Strong serving from senior Annie Nelson and freshman Cate Seman led to several attack errors in the third set by the 49ers (8-8, 0-4 A-10). Nelson served the final six points of the match, providing a stretch that included two aces and three Charlotte attack errors that were set up by errant passes. Seman had a similar run earlier in the set, serving five consecutive points that resulted in attack errors for the 49ers.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- Sophomore Bailey Dowd led Rhode Island with 10 kills. She had just two errors in 20 attempts, giving her a stellar .400 hitting percentage for the match.
- Sophomore Catie Steffen had nine kills, nine digs and two service aces.
- Senior Ashley Tennant had 11 digs and two assists.
- Freshman Cate Seman had eight digs, two assists and one kill.
- Senior Annie Nelson had 28 assists, eight digs and two service aces.
