SETTING THE SCENE
Rhode Island (9-24) jumped out to an early lead, but a five-run sixth inning by Connecticut (18-20) led to a 11-2 loss for the Rams.
The first two batters of the game for Rhody reached and scored. Starter Sam Bedore pitched three scoreless innings before Erika Szymanski came on in relief. The Huskies scratched out an unearned run in the fourth inning, and then tied it with a single run in the fifth.
Szymanski recorded two outs in the sixth before Connecticut put together a five-run rally to break the game open. The Huskies added a pair of two-run home runs in the seventh to pad the lead.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
* Courtney Prendergast doubled and scored one run.
* Emily Hendricks walked and scored one run.
* Ashley Olson singled twice and drove in one run. It was her second straight two-hit game, and fifth of the season.
* Lauren Klepchick singled and walked. It marked the seventh straight game she has reached base safely. Over the seven games, she has six hits and five walks.
* Taylor Archer had a single to extend her hitting streak to three games.
