How It Happened
Rhode Island (1-0) opened its 2013 season with a sweep of Saint Peter's (0-1) on the opening day of the Lehigh Classic Friday. The Rams never trailed in the first two sets as they coasted to a 25-15, 25-16, 25-18 victory in the first-ever meeting between the schools.

All 13 Rhode Island players saw action in the match, and eight different players had at least two kills. Junior Catie Steffen had a team-high 11 kills to go with five digs in just two sets, and senior captain Jill Anderson had eight kills, five blocks, four digs and one service ace.

Inside the Box Score

  • With five blocks, Jill Anderson moved into 10th place in Rhode Island history with 255 career blocks. She moved past former teammate Lauren McIntosh (253).
  • Junior setter Kelly Rosenberg had 14 assists in the opening set. In the process, she recorded the 500th assist of her career. With 505 assists, she ranks 21st in school history.
  • Senior Britta Baarstad had four kills with no errors in eight attacks. She added four service aces and four digs.
  • Sophomore Cate Seman finished with five kills, six digs and two blocks.
  • Freshman setter Callan Kinnan had a match-high 18 assists and three digs.
  • As a team, Rhode Island had a .333 hitting percentage, getting 40 kills with just 11 errors in 87 attacks.

Stat of the Day
Twelve different players had at least one dig. Kalyn Schieffer and Cate Seman tied for the team high with six apiece.

What's Next
Rhode Island continues play in the Lehigh Classic Saturday with matches against New Hampshire (10 a.m.) and host Lehigh (5:30 p.m.). The Lehigh match will be streamed online
