Rhode Island (7-7, 1-0 A-10) used strong passing to sweep Fordham 25-15, 25-16, 25-14 in the Atlantic 10 opener for both teams Friday.
Rhody had a team hitting percentage of .248, committing just 12 attack errors as a team. Seven of the eight Rams who saw action had at least one kill, and every player had a positive attack percentage.
Fordham (7-9, 0-1 A-10) was limited to just 45 points combined in the match, as the Rhode Island attack prevented Fordham from establishing rhythm. Fordham managed 24 kills and 23 attack errors in 114 attempts.

- Though it was just a three-set match, three players – Cate Seman, Franki Darnold and Kalyn Schieffer – had 11 digs for Rhode Island. Catie Steffen just missed double digits with nine digs.
- Freshman setter Callan Kinnan continued her strong play, getting 30 assists, three digs, three kills and one block. It was her fourth consecutive match with at least 30 assists, and the eight time in nine matches Kinnan had at least 25 assists.
- Catie Steffen had a team-high 10 kills with just one error in 27 attacks. With 655 kills, she ranks 30th in school history.
- Caroline Casey and Cate Seman combined for seven of Rhode Island's 12 blocks. Casey moved into 20th place all-time in school history with 163 blocks.
- Libero Kalyn Schieffer recorded her second career kill with a well-placed dig that landed out of the reach of all Fordham players.
- Cate Seman again showed her all-around game, recording five kills, 11 digs, three blocks and one ace.
