Kingston, RI - The Rhode Island women's cross country team finished 8th out of 14 teams at the Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championship meet. The meet was hosted by Duquesne University at Schenley Park, Pittsburgh, PA.
Duquesne won the championship on their home surface and the Rams' eighth place finish is an improvement of three spots from last year's meet.
Alexa Pelletier was the top finisher for Rhode Island placing second with a final time of 17:41.6. The finish will earn her a spot on the A10 All-Conference team awarded to the top 15 finishers at the meet. She becomes the 25th All-Conference team member in Rhode Island cross country history.
Her second place finish ties the best individual finish in program history: Stephanie Ulicny was second in 1993 (19:05.16), Erin Silvering second in 2001 (17:58.8), Kristin Coon second in 2003 (18:07.8) and Heidi Westerling second in 2004 (17:42).
After Pelletier, Alyssa Brehler finished in 25th place (18:35.2), Jackie Burr placed 47th (19:07.5), Lauren Columbare was 69th (19:35.7) Courtney Hawkins was 82nd (19:58.1), Nicolette Pelrine finished 92nd (20:39.9) and Lanie Jowett placed 98th (22:54.0).
