KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island women's cross country team finished 24th out of 40 teams at the NCAA Regionals on Friday. The meet was hosted by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at Van Corlandt Park in Riverdale N.Y.
The Rams, led by redshirt sophomore standout Alexa Pelletier, were the highest Atlantic 10 team, beating UMass by 39 points.
Iona dominated the meet on their home course, with three top six finishers. The Gaels were followed by Providence, giving the Friars second-place overall in the men's and women's meets.
Pelletier followed up a second-place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championships with a 23rd-place finish in Riverdale. Her finish at the regional meet was good to receive all-district honors.
After Pelletier, freshmen Alyssa Brehler, (123rd, 22:24.30), and Jackie Burr, (127th, 22:31.61), raced well in their first NCAA Regionals appearances. Lauren Columbare finished 183rd, (23:13.62), Courtney Hawkins was 205th, (23:42.14), and Nicolette Pelrine came in at 24:20.09, for 237th place.
