Box Score 2 How it Happened
Rhode Island (4-13) split its final two games at the UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational, getting a 4-3 extra-inning, walk-off win over Hampton before falling 2-1 to Niagara.
In the first game, Rhody beat Hampton (9-9) in extra innings as Stacey Fox scored from second base when Jenna Cubello reached on an error. Cubello hit a grounder to third, and a throwing error allowed Fox to come around with the winning run.
Niagara (5-8) got a strong outing from Kim Bryson (1-5), who limited the Rams to three hits and an unearned run. Theresa Fleckinstein hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to provide the Purple Eagles with the winning margin.
Inside the Box Score:
- Senior Stacey Fox had the team's first three-hit game of the season when she doubled, singled twice and scored two runs against Hampton. Her second run of the game gave the Rams their first walk-off win of the season.
- Sophomore Taylor Archer continued to swing a hot bat, delivering two hits, including a two-run single in her first plate appearance against Hampton. The single extended her hitting streak to five games. The hitting streak, unfortunately, ended against Niagara.
- Freshman Danielle Gariglio singled twice against Hampton, her first career multi-hit game. She also walked twice against Niagara.
- Freshman Jenna Cubello singled and scored a run against Hampton. She walked against Niagara.
- Senior Jocelyn Mattison drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and scored a run against Hampton. She singled against Niagara.
- Junior Megan Congro had three singles on the day and was hit by a pitch.
- Sophomore Olivia Hendricks appeared as a pinch runner and scored Rhody's run against Niagara.
- Sophomore Caitlin Kennedy overcame a tough first inning to deliver her second consecutive strong start. Hampton got to Kennedy for two runs on three hits in the top of the first. From there, Kennedy allowed just one run on two hits over her final five innings.
- Senior Sam Bedore picked up her second win of the season with two scoreless innings of relief against Hampton. In the top of the eight, Bedore got out of a first-and-third, no out situation to set up the Rhody victory in the bottom of the inning.
- Bedore struck out four batters in two innings of relief against Niagara, but took the loss.
- Freshman Ashley Dumoulin scattered seven hits while allowing just one run over four innings against Niagara. Dumoulin struck out three and stranded eight Purple Eagles on base.
- Dumoulin has allowed just four earned runs over her last 16 innings of work. In her first 21 innings, she gave up 17 earned runs.
Stat of the Day
4 – Rhode Island has allowed four runs or less in six straight games. In the first 11 games, the Rams allowed four or less runs just twice.

Rhode Island is scheduled to play its home opener against Bryant in a single game Tuesday, March 18 at 3 p.m. before heading to Hartford for a pair of games Wednesday, March 19.
