Box Score 2 How it Happened
Rhode Island (11-28, 4-8 Atlantic 10) was swept in a conference doubleheader for the second straight day, as it dropped two at La Salle Saturday. The Explorers (17-15, 9-3 Atlantic 10) won by scores of 6-2 and 8-2.
La Salle jumped out early in the first game, scoring in each of the first four innings as it steadily built a 6-1 lead. A three-run home run by Emily Moran in the bottom of the second inning was the big blow.
Rhode Island held a 2-0 after a two-run double by Marylynn Muldowney in the top of the second inning. However, La Salle came back with seven runs over the next three innings. Alicia Aughton took care of the rest in the circle. She won both games, pitching a combined 12 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits.
Inside the Box Score:
- Freshman Marylynn Muldowney continued to swing a hot bat, getting two hits in each game. Muldowney now leads the team in batting average (.281) and hits (27). Over her last seven games, she is batting .391 (9-for-23) with four RBI and two runs scored.
- Junior Megan Congro was the only other Ram with multiple hits. She singled twice and drove in one run.
- Senior Stacey Fox had a solo home run in the first game. It was her first of the season.
- Freshman Danielle Gariglio had one single, and classmate Jenna Cubello scored two runs on the day.
- With the last of her nine strikeouts on the day, Sam Bedore reached 350 strikeouts for her career.
Stat of the Day
