Box Score How it Happened
Third-seeded Rhode Island (20-9) got off to it's worst start of the season, falling 25-10 in the opening set. The Rams found themselves down 10-5, but scored four of the next five points to make it a 11-9 game. However the Billikens (22-9) closed things out on a tear, outscoring Rhody 14-1 the rest of the way to take the early advantage in the match.
URI regrouped and jumped out to 5-1 lead in the second set and remained on top until the midway point, where the Billikens scored eight in a row to pull ahead 21-15. The Rams managed just two kills the rest and went into the break down 2-0.
Much like the second set, the third started out as a back-and-forth battle which was knotted up at 10-10. Similar to both previous sets, Saint Louis was too much for Rhody to handle down the stretch, closing things out with a 15-7 push to run away with with the 3-0 victory.
