How it Happened
Rhode Island (0-3) gave up a single run in each of the first three innings before getting on the board in the top of the fifth when Nick DeRegis homered to left to lead off the inning. That was as close as Rhody would get however, as the second-ranked Gators (3-0) added two in the sixth and one more in the eighth for the 6-1 win.

- URI's only extra base hit of the day was senior Nick DeRegis' solo shot on the fifth inning.

- Senior Tim Caputo led the way for Rhody with a 3-for-4 day at the plate.

- Senior Mike Sherburne reached twice on a pair of walks. He finished the weekend with a team-best .600 on-base percentage, going 4-for-8 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base.
- Redshirt sophomore Mike Corin extended his hitting streak to three games. He was the only Ram to record at least one hit in each game this weekend.
- Freshman Tyler Wilson was outstanding in his collegiate debut, coming on in the bottom of the third and allowing just one hit to the 15 batters he faced.
- Redshirt sophomore Blaise Whitman was charged with the loss, giving up three runs (all earned) on five hits over a two-plus inning start.
- Florida's Dalton Guthrie went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI.
- Defending SEC Regular Season Champion Florida entered opening weekend ranked sixth or better in each of the six national polls (#2-D1Baseball.com, #4 Perfect Game, #5 USA Today, #5 NCBWA, #6 Collegiate Baseball, #6 Baseball America).
