How it Happened
After four scoreless innings, Mike Sherburne put Rhode Island on the board with a two-out, two-run homer that also scored Jordan Powell. No. 11 North Carolina responded quickly, however, matching URI with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame.

Rhody (0-5) put its first three men on in the top of the sixth, but only managed to push one run across - on a sac-fly by Nick DeRegis that scored Martin Taveras. Carolina answered again in the bottom half of the inning, plating an unearned run before an inning-ending strikeout by Derek Kawlewski.

The Tar Heels (6-2) did not pull ahead until the bottom of the seventh, when they got an RBI single to second and a run-scoring fielder's choice ball to shortstop.

URI put a runner on in both the eighth and ninth, but was unable to do any further damage.
