How it Happened
Rhode Island (15-13-1, 8-3) battled Richmond (19-13, 8-3) through eight scoreless innings before pushing three runs across in the top of the ninth.

Ryan Olmo drew a leadoff walk to jumpstart the late rally and advanced to third on a Mike Corin double. With one away, Connor Foreman was then intentionally walked before a wild pitch allowed all runners to advance and Olmo to touch the plate for the first run of the game. In his attempt to make a play on Olmo, Richmond catcher Aaron Newman had a bad throw to the plate which also allowed Corin to come home and make it 2-0 Rhody. Mike Foley then sealed the win with an opposite-field double to drive in Foreman.

Tyler Wilson allowed only one hit in the complete-game shutout. He was aided by a pair of double plays behind him, including a line-out to center followed by Jordan Powell's 8-3 putout in the bottom of the second.

Inside the Box Score

  • Freshman pitcher Tyler Wilson improves to 5-0 on the season and 4-0 in the Atlantic 10. The shutout win over the Spiders lowers his season ERA to 1.14 overall and 0.55 in conference.
  • Wilson has now thrown back-to-back complete games, with today's being the first complete-game shutout of his career. He also combined with Brad Applin for a shutout in URI's 5-0 win over Davidson on April 4.
  • The Rhody rookie needed just 85 pitches to record 27 outs against first-place Richmond.
  • Senior Tim Caputo and redshirt freshman Chris Hess finished the day with two hits apiece.
  • Freshman Mike Foley entered the game as a pinch runner in the top of the eighth. He then replaced classmate Jordan Powell in centerfield and drove in a run in his ninth-inning at-bat.
  • Junior Ryan Olmo scored what proved to be the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the ninth. His leadoff walk was the first time he had reached base in the game as he had previously grounded out three times.
  • Redshirt sophomore Mike Corin scored a run and recorded his team-leading 11th double of the season.
  • Junior Connor Foreman was walked three times and scored once, in the top of the ninth.
  • Richmond's Brendan McGuigan was charged with the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and four walks over 8.2 innings.
  • Tanner Stanley recorded the lone hit of the game for the Spiders - a fourth-inning single to first base.
