How it Happened
Chris Hess' first career home run could not have come at a better time as his three-run shot put Rhody on top of VCU, 5-2, with two away in the top of the eighth.

Rhode Island (17-16-1, 10-4) had led 1-0 after Mike Sherburne scored on an error in the top of the third, but VCU (24-18, 7-7) plated two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh to move in front 2-1.

Sherburne then evened it up at two apiece when he scored on a two-out wild pitch in the eighth. Hess later launched what would prove to be a game-winning home run, driving in Jordan Powell and Ryan Olmo to give Rhody the lead for good.

VCU added a solo home run in the bottom of the frame, but Mike Corin tripled and then scored on a sac-fly in the top of the ninth to lock up the 6-3 win and series victory for the Rams.
