How it Happened
Rhody (18-18-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second when Jordan Powell singled to right center to score Nick DeRegis and Mike Corin.
UMass Lowell (12-22) cut it in half in the bottom of the frame but Rhody pushed it to 5-2 in the top of the fourth as Chase Livingston drove in DeRegis and Tim Caputo followed with a two-run single that plated Livingston and Powell.
The Rams hung another three spot in the top of the fifth with Powell doubling to score DeRegis and Martin Taveras and Connor Foreman scoring on a groundout by Livingston.
The Riverhawks pushed one across in the bottom of the frame but Rhody responded with a two-run sixth that made it a 10-2 game on just one play. With one away and Ryan Olmo on second base, Taveras singled to centerfield and advanced to second when the Riverhawks attempted to throw Olmo out at the plate. UML first baseman Jimmy Ricoy cut the throw in from center and tried to get Taveras at second, but his errant throw went out into center, allowing Taveras to take third before beating center fielder Geoff DeGroot's throw to the plate.
Foreman scored again in the top of the seventh, on a sac-fly by Olmo, and Chris Hess followed with a single through the right side that plated Livingston for the 12-2 Rhody lead.
Taveras then iced the 14-2 win with a two-run shot over the right field wall in the top of the ninth.
