How it Happened
Rhode Island (22-22-1, 14-8) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Jordan Powell singled up the middle to drive in Mike Corin.
However, Cameron Johnson ripped a two-run double in the fourth to put La Salle (23-26-1, 11-11) on top 2-1. Josh Savakinus then homered in the top of the fifth before Mark Williams scored on a Rhody error to extend the Explorers' lead to 4-1.
The Rams got one back in the home half of the inning - on a Tim Caputo sac-fly that scored Powell - before knotting it up at 4-4 three innings later. Chris Hess doubled down the left field line to open the eighth before advancing to third on a base hit by Martin Taveras. After Mike Corin was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Nick DeRegis singled to left center to score both Hess and Taveras and level the score at four apiece.
With two outs in the top of the 10th, La Salle managed to load the bases and then pulled back ahead when pinch hitter Chase Arnold popped a three-run double into shallow right field for the 7-4 Explorers advantage.
Rhode Island chipped away in the bottom of the frame, making it a one-run game on back-to-back RBI singles by Connor Foreman and Derek Gardella. However, Foreman was stranded on third as the tying run while La Salle escaped with the 7-6 victory.
