Clauido Sets School Record in 500 Meters, Rams Have Great Showing at Terrier Classic

KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island women's Track & Field team had an overall great team performance on Friday evening at the Terrier Classic. The team had six top ten finishers, five new all-time marks, 17 athletes notch new personal bests in events. However, the stand out highlght was Mariah Claudio setting the school record in the 500 meters. 

Top Ten Finishers: 

  • Claudio was the top collegiate finisher in the 500 Meters and 2nd overall, with a school record and ECAC qualifying time of 1:12.91. Claudio broke the old record set by Lauren Burke (1:13.99). Claudio now holds four individual school records (300 Meters, 400 Meters, and outdoor 400 Meters).
  • Keiko Hector was third in the high jump with an ECAC qualifying mark of 1.70m (5'7"). This ties her for eigth best all-time. Hector also ran a time of 8.97 in the 60 meter hurdles which ties her for the sixth best in program history.
  • Janel Conley was fifth in the 60 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 8.77s. She finished ninth in the long jump with a mark of 5.43m (17'9 3/4").
  • Karleigh Manfredi was sixth in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.60m (11;9 3/4").
  • Katja Neves was seventh in the shot put with a mark of 13.15m (43'1 3/4"),
  • The 4x400 Relay team of Dyshelle Pemberton (57.6), Keiko Hector (57.1), Mikaila Amerantes (57.5) and Mariah Claudio (54.8) finished ninth with an ECAC qualifying mark of 3:47.24. This mark is seventh best all-time. 

Other Top Performances:

  • Jennifer Czerapowicz jumped a URI indoor best 11.50m (37'8 3/4") in the triple jump.
  • Pemberton ran the 500 meters in 1:15.88. This time places her fifth all-time in program history. 
  • Karen Lobaton clocked a time of 8.97s in the 60 meter hurdles which ties her for sixth best all-time.

Up next:

The Rams will return to the track next Saturday when it hosts the Coaches meet. The meet is set to begin fro Mackal Fieldhouse at 11 a.m.
