KINGSTON, R.I. - URI's women track & field team finished second overall (82.75) out of the 32 team field in the NECIAAA Indoor Track & Field Championship Saturday afternoon in Boston. The Huskies' of Northeastern (157) took the crown of Champions.
Record Setting Performance
A day after shattering her personal best and setting a new freshman record in the 800m run, freshman Nichole Barger set a new school record (4:58.34) while finishing in eighth place in the 1 mile run. Barger followed up her record setting time in Friday's prelims in the 800m (2:11.87) with a time of 2:22.99 to finish eighth in the finals.
Winners
Dyshelle Pemberton was crowned NECIAAA Champion in the 500m run. Pemberton finished in a total time of 1:14.10
Other Top Performers
- Keiko Hector took bronze in the women's high jump with a jump of 1.66m. Teammate Elaina Hobbs finished in a tie for sixth place (1.61m).
- Jennifer Czerapowicz took 12th place in the triple jump with a distance of 11.32m.
- Katja Neves finished 10th in the shot put with a throw of 12.33m.
- Rhody's Janel Conley took fourth in the 60m hurdles (8.64s), classmate Karen Lobaton finished right behind Conley in fifth (8.83s).
- Mariah Claudio finished just outside the top three, with a fourth place finish in the 400m run. Claudio crossed the finish line with a time of 55.19s.
- Junior Briana Robitaille finished seventh in the 60m dash with a time of 7.84s.
- The 4x800 relay team of Alexandra Carbonell, Jennifer Czerapowicz, Katie McNulty and Nichole Barger placed fourth with a total combined time of 9:10.82.
- In the 4x400 relay, the efforts of Dyshelle Pemberton, Keiko Hector, Mikaila Amerantes and Mariah Claudio (3:44.39) gave Rhody a second place finish.
