Rhode Island Takes 10th at Atlantic 10 Championship

How it Happened

Senior Alec Font was Rhode Island's top finisher as the Rams placed 10th at the Atlantic 10 Men's Cross Country Championship in Fairfax, Va. Saturday morning.

Led by the dup of Chris Negri and J.P Flavin – who finished third and fourth overall – Dayton won the team championship with 66 points. The Flyers edged Saint Joseph's (84) and George Washington (95). Rounding out the top five were Duquesne (146) and La Salle (156).

The Finish Line

  • Senior Alec Font was Rhody's top finisher, claiming 30th place in the field of 118 runners. Font finished in a time of 26:18.0.
  • Redshirt freshman Rock Fortna was the next Ram across the line, taking 40th place with a time of 26:30.3.
  • Fortna was the third fastest freshmen at the meet. The La Salle duo of Ryan James and Billy Byrne were the only freshmen to finish ahead of Fortna.
  • Junior Nicholas Celico was the third fastest runner for Rhode Island, placing 57th in a time of 26:49.6.
  • Also factoring in the team score were sophomore Joseph Maguire (67th, 27:02.9) and junior Timothy Slack (85th, 27:25.3).
  • Freshmen Matthew Vinacco (87 th, 27:26.5), Nicholas Musumeci (104th, 28:13.8) and Daniel Ruggiero (109th, 28:59.4) also competed for Rhode Island.
