How it Happened
Rhode Island (1-2) got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Alex Santos singled down the right field line to drive in Sonny Ulliana.

The Rams tacked on four more in the bottom of the fourth as Chris Hess led off the inning with his second triple of the weekend and Martin Figueroa followed with an RBI knock through the right side to make it 2-0. Ulliana then singled to left to set up Mike Corin's three-run shot that put Rhody on top 5-0.

Stony Brook (0-3) was unable to get anything going off starter Matt Murphy, who retired 10 consecutive hitters from the first inning through the fifth, and eventually left the game after six scoreless. The Seawolves appeared to have made it a 5-4 game in the top of the seventh, but what would have been a grand slam by Toby Handley was changed to a three-run single when Handley ran past Andruw Gazzola, who was tagging up at first base, unsure if Handley's ball would leave the park.

Corin struck again for the Rams in the bottom of the eighth, sending his second home run of the day over the left field wall to make it 6-3 Rhody. Vitaly Janglos then closed things out with a scoreless eighth and ninth, locking up the first win of the season for URI.
